struggle
Being Me
A couple of days ago, I mentioned having a difficult time with my son during a meltdown (his), and someone sent this to me. It was a real eye-opener for me.
Thank you!
I wish you could see
what it’s like to be me.
To struggle each day
what would you say?
The things you find easy
make those like me queasy;
The lights, the sounds, the feel of a seam,
sometimes they make me want to scream!
But I can’t because I want to be good
the way you expect that I should.
I work so hard all day long
the teachers sing my praises in song.
But when I get home I let it all out;
I get angry and mean and often I shout.
Sometimes I scream from the pain of it all;
I throw myself on the floor and curl up in a ball.
My parents, they love me and oh how they try,
but often my mother just sits down to cry.
For no one can tell them just what to do;
the doctors, the therapists, you’d think they all knew.
Try this, try that, give him this pill.
yet still the tears spill.
How I wish you could see
what it’s like to be me.
